Bernie Acuna was born with Gabrielino blood on both sides of his family in the city of Alhambra, on January, 4, 1949. Growing up he was a well mannered son, a strong and caring brother of six siblings, and over the years became an active father to four children. Through the years, Bernie's career led him to play an active role in sales management and later due to his residential movement he became a forest ranger in Idyllwild, California.
Currently, Bernie Acuna has made a decision to become an active member of the Gabrielino-Tongva Tribe. He has taken direction in a positive way to not only improve the lives of other Gabrielino Indians but lives of the community members of The Greater Los Angeles Area as well. Bernie Acuna has found inspiration from his grandmother, who is the oldest living member of the Gabrielino-Tongva Tribe to continue the fight for the tribe's federal recognition. |

"My work with the Tribe is a lot of fun, and
an ideal way to give something back to the indigenous peoples of LA County.
Given the Tribe's unfortunate history of genocide,
and my own family's loss of 37 members in the Holocaust, we have shared a
common bond."
Before beginning his own practice, Mr. Stein was associated with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, the third largest
law firm in America in New York City, the Los Angeles office
of Hughes, Hubbard & Reed, where ARCO was his main client, and the Los
Angeles office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. Mr. Stein, age 50, competed
in amateur rugby leagues until the age of 40, and has competed in 48
triathlons since then. |

After receiving a business degree at Southern Methodist University in 1978, Steve joined the banking industry where he has worked ever since. Along the way, he attended the University of Houston where he pursued his MBA. |
|
Steve spent the first half of his banking career in Texas lending to the energy sector, with a broad base of customers from drilling contractors and independent oil companies to major oil companies such as Texaco, Mobil and Exxon. With the collapse of the energy sector in the late 1980’s (now since fully recovered), Steve began lending to the casino industry starting in about 1987. He has participated in the explosive growth of Las Vegas and elsewhere and at one time or another has financed nearly every major casino in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, Atlantic City, along with many Native American Casinos across the country as well as in Canada, Europe and Asia.
Steve took a hiatus from commercial lending from 2002 to 2006, and was heavily involved in working within the casino industry itself. In this capacity, he worked extensively with the management and daily cash controls of casinos, including their cage and credit operations, and the day-to-day financial operations.
Steve is currently involved in the banking industry again and is managing the commercial lending division at a community bank in Los Angeles. He retains many contacts and acquaintances in the casino business, and knows people at most of the casinos because of his former involvement.
